Four times in a row the local Safeway has either screwed up my order, or overcharged me. The store manager is always "unavailable" and never returns my voicemails. Corporate emails me that I have to visit the store in person to get a refund. And that would be "...at the discretion of the Store Director". What utter bullsh*t. No wonder they're losing market share and tried to get Kroger to buy them out.

I had an extremely frustrating experience at Safeway Store 496 (******* NE 24th, Redmond, WA *******). It took me an hour just to check out due to poor service and miscommunication.

At checkout, my member discount wasn't applied. A cashier told me I wasn't a member, even though I had installed the Safeway app and registered in January 2025. She directed me to Customer Service, but no one was there. A staff member cleaning the trash kindly led me to the store manager, Greg, who was resting in a corner. Instead of resolving the issue, Greg told me to wait at Customer Service.

After five minutes of waiting, I asked another staff member, Athena, for help. She assisted me in registering my membership again via the app, which showed that new members should receive a discount. However, the discount still didn't apply at checkout. When Athena called Greg, he claimed I was already a member, which is why I didn't receive the new-member discount. I explained that I had to register again because I was told I wasn't a member earlier. Greg then accused me of providing the wrong phone number at checkout, causing the issue.

He insisted I take all my items to Customer Service to redo the entire process. By this point, I had already spent an hour trying to check out. When I voiced my frustration, Greg raised his voice, told me I was "done here," and said I was not welcome at Safeway.

This experience was beyond disappointing. The lack of organization, accountability, and customer service was unacceptable. I'm sharing my experience to warn others about the poor treatment I received so they can avoid the same frustration and disrespect.

I am absolutely discussed there is so much greed you can'teven have one cashier on duty. With the prices I pay at Safeway I don't expect I be required to check my self out. I buy 300+ dollars in groceries and I have to scan and bag it all my self. If I wanted to do that I could go to Walmart and save some money. What happened to having some customer service when I am paying a premium!

Safeway App Sucks

I am so upset with the Safeway App, one day it just stopped working properly, and I have issues signing in, and getting it to send codes to my email, only to not be able to get in. I have been dealing with this for a month. I shop elsewhere and use other store apps that work. It makes me sign in whenever I am in the store and the staff are no help. Safeway you can do better with instead of charging high prices, fix your darn app

Home delivery

First time ordering, will be the last time ordering they pick the worst food. Charges the most money. Don't apply any coupons discounts or the rewards card. Highly disappointed in this service. If you want to get little food for no money order from Safeway. Maybe it's a good idea for Fred Meyers is going to buy them out. Received no receipts. Received substitutions that I cannot eat because I'm diabetic. Was not even given the courtesy to ask if a substitution was okay. Ordered over 70 items and all of them were either out of stock or they substituted it. I will make sure and tell everyone do not order from Safeway. Highly disappointed long-term loyal Safeway customer

I put the few groceries I grabbed back on the shelf because there was only one register open with a huge lineup... rude, the self checkout had as big a line so even when half the shoppers do it themselves it's still pathetic, and again, rude. This experience helped me find a smaller produce shop, they're great and believe in service not just $$$$.

Screwed Again

I got screwed on Just for U again.
Loaded the Club Card with weekly deals & only received membership discounts.
The clipped coupons did not compute.
Fu*ked again Safeway.
Oh well, I'll get even somehow.

What a joke. They put items on sale then don't have them in stock, drove to this location yesterday and was told by the guys in the meat department that they would have new stock today so that I may be able to get the sale, came in today and guess what? No stock... waisted a trip for a misleading employee. The worst part is they won't do rain checks, or any substitutions... customer service has definitely went downhill. Could not recommend this location. Maybe try Fred Meyers I'm sure they're more friendly..

3/2/24 we went to find out why our auto fill prescriptions were all back to call in instead of auto. She told us we had never set it up and our phone wasn't set up (4 mos it went fine then just stopped). She kept saying "I don't know what your asking". My spouse said I guess I will have to go elsewhere and she said, "ok, not a problem". We have shopped at Safeway for years and I know we will go elsewhere now. This is not the 1st time this female pharmacist has been rude. Maybe when the store loses enough customers they will understand it is the very people they are being rude to that are the reason they have jobs!

I stopped at Safeway to purchase some fried chicken they had on sale for dinner. There were over 9 deli, A couple right by the order area, 3 workers standing in corner gossiping. They refuse to wait on customers. This happens all the time. I was the only customer there and they look at you like you are invisible. WORST SERVICE EVER.

I ordered my food delivery on 3/9/24. ​ is 3/11/24 and I still haven't received my order! I have spoken to customer service, called the store directly and left a message for the district manager, Beverly Gendolfo, and still nothing. 5 minutes ago I spoke to the online order representative from the Almaden Safeway and the gentleman told me "we don't have it ready but we can set-up a delivery for tomorrow". Now he says he can door dash it to me. This isn't the first time orders have been late by hours or even days! If you ask for a refund they don't give it to you for 7 days, yet the money was taken out of my account promptly on 3/9/24. Why use this service of it doesn't give you service. Why call customer service if they can give you no help. Why place an order and set a delivery time that fits into your schedule if they can change it to when it's convenient for them. Why use this delivery service at all?

Opened the app, finally found the icon to download the required digital coupon.
"item not recognized" on both of the items i was seeking.
Two clerks tried and said they have the same issue when trying to purchase items.
First the FORCE you download the app to get the sales price.
Then the app does not work.

Disappointed
December 28, 2022

The add for December 21 - 25,2022 the store was closed December 25. No one could buy any this day. The store showed have continued the sale of COCA COLA mix & match but 2 get 3 free. So sad you would not honor this in the 12/26/2022 very sad. No recycle place where I live so why do we have to pay redemption fees.

You think you're buying a product that might be somewhat good for you on the scale of natural and healthy, you read the ingredients and realize that it's not just peanuts with a little tiny bit of salt the dry roasted peanuts have sugar in them. Why? I was disappointed in flavor and they gave me an upset tummy.

So much to say...I used to be a daily shopper at Safeway. Even tho they manipulate their prices daily and play a 'shell-game' with how they present themselves to the public as a responsible grocer. They are anything but.I was checking out and using my digital app for some coffee. It showed a discount, but not what was advertised in the isle. I brought this to their attention and the guy said it was my fault. After proving his ignorance, he proceeded to tell me that it was Safeway's faulty APP. It too, was an absolute lie. Safeway is rigged with deceptive business practice, that if you continue to shop there, you'll need to scrutinize every item rung through their corrupt system. There's plenty more to post with regard to their BS tactics, but more that I care to put the effort in mentioning.

It's a great delivery service, but when you order slabs of drink and a young lady who can barely lift the slabs arrives, I think, is wrong. Luckily I arrived in time to do it for her. Maybe allocate certain jobs for different drivers, maybe with trollies. Otherwise, a really speedy service.

Quit gouging shoppers with your high prices. No one eats your food because it's like dumpster diving. Safeway's food has always been terrible yet they continue to gouge shoppers. They are disgusting. Shop anywhere but here. Teach them a lesson by us hopping in better stores or ordering your food online. This has nothing to do with inflation and everything to do with a greedy corporation gouging shoppers. The nerve to charge these exorbitant prices for food that could be found in the dumpster. I only shopped here for cheap I can food but now they've raised the prices on that. What a greedy nasty company.

Delicatessen Services

I'm an avid Safeway shopper & The service of most Safeways from Maryland to Virginia is good.
The Delicatessen service is another subject... most seem not to be "customer helpful" trained.
Today... 1 SEP 2022, I purchased the chicken salad 12" sub from the Safeway on Sterling Blvd in Sterling VA, which I have done many times previously, and the sub has about 2 tablespoons of chicken salad on it and old lettuce which tastes bitter.
The customer service here is... i understand... The price went up but the value of the sandwich has gone... DOWN!
To me their subs and sandwiches were better than Subway... I always made it a point to go there.
