While porting one of my websites to my existing account with hostgator, my ported website somehow ended up in a separate business plan (meaning additional hundreds of dollars). Unfortunately I didn't notice that until many months later (I was on multi-year billing plan). When I asked hostgator about this they said there was not anything they could do about it because of "policy." I finally got it escalated to the "admins" who would not communicate with me directly. They just reviewed the front-end communicate and sent me an email saying they couldn't do anything. In the meantime, my other business plan was renewed for three years without a notification. They say they sent the notification, and maybe they did, but it was not in my inbox or spam (and this has happened multiple times where there hypothetical notifications do not show up on my end). Even just after a few weeks they again said they could not cancel or refund the plan because it was already charged. Can't or won't? I think that's obvious. The admins again made no effort to talk to me directly. They just send out their front end people who have no power to do anything except say what they are supposed to say, and the admins hide behind their electronic screens. I've never experienced such poor customer service in this type of situation. I'll be moving to another host that communicates with customers and gives them the benefit of the doubt.
I'm pretty hands off with it. I made my website but I don't really update it.
Everything has been going well. I haven't had any issues in a while. The sales thing that popped up when I'm trying to make changes is annoying--gets in the way.
Good site to navigate - I don't like that the first page is an ad for additional services and it keeps coming back even if I click that I'm not interested
I have a lot of problems with hostgator. So much so I'm actually thinking about switching to somebody else. Your customer service is terrible, your people are poorly trained, I supposedly have an SSL certificate that you guys loaded onto my page but people are constantly having problems saying there's no SSL certificate. You guys need to do better
The services offered are great and competitive. They set up process is fairly quick and easy, even for someone like me who is not an expert. Unfortunately, the customer service experience (for me at least) has not been the best. I have had to call on issues only to get wrong and unclear information.

Ever since my provider became HostGator about 20 years ago I've always had a good relationship except when I was losing webpages and that may have been my fault. But every time I've called I've got a real person who has helped me get my website back on track.

The Gator has got it going. Awesome pricing and quality service! I don't have much experience with their customer service in all of the years I have been using them. It's been a while since I last had to contact support. To me however that is a good thing. For me, the less times I have to call customer service for any product and not just web hosting services, is just a confirmation that I have a great product! Kudos HostGator!

Answer: If you go straight to smartchat, it is very easy - you only need to find the smartchat button. I have worked with the Internet since web browsers were invented, so I know most of the answers already. That means that when I have a problem that I can't solve, it is going to be a real stinker for HostGator support to solve - I only bring them the difficult ones. Recently, I had an ISP who gave me terrible service, and the internet kept dropping out every few minutes. The Hostgator smartchat expert kept contact with me on and of for about an hour and three quarters until he had worked out the answer for me. That is what I call RELIABLE service.
